Delete your data
Three ways to remove data from Hype Machine, from narrowest to widest. All of them are free and none of them require you to give a reason.
Remove one connected account
Use this when you want Hype Machine to stop reading one channel and to forget what it already read from it.
- Sign in to Hype Machine and open the project.
- Go to the accounts list and find the account.
- Choose Disconnect.
This revokes our access token, and removes that account’s posts, engagement figures and follower history from the project. Your other accounts are untouched.
Delete a project
A project holds every account, post, figure, draft and note you have grouped together. Deleting it removes all of that.
- Sign in and open the project.
- Open its settings and choose Delete project.
- Confirm.
Delete your account and everything in it
Email privacy@hypemachine.co from the address you signed up with, and write “Delete my data”. Nothing else is needed — no form, no reason, no phone call.
If you cannot email from that address, say so and tell us:
- the email address on the Hype Machine account, and
- one of the social account handles you connected, so we can confirm it is yours.
What gets deleted: your account and sign-in details, every project, every connected account and its access token, every post and figure we read, your follower history, and your drafts and notes.
What we keep, and why: records of any purchase you made — date, amount and invoice — because tax and accounting law requires it. These contain no social media data. They are deleted when the statutory retention period ends.
Revoke access from the platform’s side
You do not need our cooperation to cut off access. You can revoke it directly, and it takes effect immediately:
- LinkedIn — Settings & Privacy → Data Privacy → Permitted services.
- Instagram — Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.
- TikTok — Settings and privacy → Security and permissions → Manage app permissions.
Revoking stops all future reads at once. It does not by itself delete what we already hold — for that, use one of the three steps above.
If someone else added your profile
Hype Machine users can add public profiles they do not own, to benchmark against. If that has happened to you and you want it removed, email privacy@hypemachine.co with the profile URL. You do not need a Hype Machine account, and you do not need to explain why. We will remove it and write back to confirm.
What happens after you ask
- We acknowledge within 3 working days so you know it arrived.
- We complete deletion within 30 days, which is the maximum the GDPR allows. It is usually much faster.
- We write back to confirm when it is done, telling you what was removed.
- Backups are overwritten on their normal rotation, within 90 days. Deleted data is not restored from a backup.
